Wem Dominator Mk 3
If you have a Wem Dominator Mk3, a Power Musette or a Mk1 Bass, it probably hums quite loudly, enough to make it unsuitable for recording. I have worked on several of these and they all hummed, regardless of the condition of the filter caps, valves and the rest of the components.
After some serious investigations on this basically mint condition, hardly used specimen that had excellent Mullard valves and new electrolytics installed, I figured out why they hum and re-arranged some of the wiring according to my understanding of physics. Just a couple of small modifications can reduces the hum to almost nothing and it is well worth having done alongside a service, repair or overhaul. It does not alter the original circuit in any way. I also do a small modification that allows you to use any make of EL84 in your Dominator.
I have overhauled and de-noised several of these great sounding amps for recording musicians and they were all delighted with the results.
